Touring Routes
Multi-day touring routes across Australia — day-by-day breakdowns, suggested tracks and parks, and a gear pack for each trip. Nationwide routes (the Big Lap, the East Coast Run) span multiple states; others are anchored to one.
State
- The Gibb River Road Adventure10 days · off-road touringThe Kimberley’s legendary 660 km of dirt between Derby and Kununurra, strung with gorges and station stays. Brutal corrugations, a couple of real crossings, and worth every kilometre if your rig is up to it.
- The Red Centre Way10 days · touringA loop out of Alice Springs taking in Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon and the West MacDonnells. Mostly sealed with one good dirt option (the Mereenie Loop), so most vans can do it with a bit of care.
- A Lap of Tasmania21 days · touringThree weeks is the right amount of time for a lap of Tassie, and you will still leave things out. Compact distances, but the roads are windy and the weather does what it likes, so slow down and pack layers.
- The Savannah Way: Cairns to the Kimberley21 days · touringThe great tropical crossing from the Coral Sea to Broome, through the Gulf Savannah and Katherine. There is a fully sealed way through and an adventurous mostly-unsealed way — we lay out both.
- The East Coast Run: Melbourne to Cairns56 days · touringThe gentlest big trip in the country and the classic first long lap. All sealed, holiday parks the whole way, and warm water waiting at the top. A good shakedown before anything harder.
- The Big Lap of Australia180 days · touringThe full circuit of the country on and around Highway 1 — roughly 15,000 km and, done properly, the better part of a year. Here is how we break it into legs so the weather works for you instead of against you.
