Airlie Beach is the caravanning gateway to the Whitsundays — sealed highway access via the Bruce Highway, a dense cluster of holiday parks right in town, and day-trip or overnight boat access to the islands and reef beyond. It's squarely East Coast Run territory: any standard caravan handles the approach with no rig-rating considerations at all.
The appeal here is entirely water-based rather than driving-based — reef trips, island-hopping and sailing charters are the point, with the caravan park functioning as a comfortable land base rather than the trip's main event. It's a good multi-night stop to break up a longer Cairns-bound coastal run.
June to September is peak season (dry, mild, stinger-free swimming), which is also when southern grey nomads arrive in numbers — book Airlie Beach parks well ahead for that window.
